Expats Experience Chinese Silk and Culture
An event themed “Flowing Silk Road: Beautiful Life Starting from Museum” was held in Suzhou on Mar 25, attracting over 20 people including both Chinese and expatriates.
In the event, a staff member from Suzhou Silk Museum gave the participants an introduction to the Chinese solar terms in spring, clothes that ancient Chinese in the region south of the Yangtze River liked to wear during spring, and the design concepts for collages made of pieces of Song brocade, a kind of brocade developed during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
Many expats tried to wear traditional Chinese costumes and make collages.
A series of events of similar kind will be held throughout this year to mark the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by China and offer expats in Suzhou opportunities to know more about Chinese culture.
The events, according to the centre, will take place at different sites including colleges and universities, scenic spots, schools, enterprises, communities and Suzhou Silk Museum.
